Letter from President
A Change for the
Better
These days, change is everywhere we turn. With the help of Barack
Obama’s presidential campaign, this simple word has started a mass
movement inspiring many Americans to jump on the band wagon of
changing America for the better. The excitement and inspiration can
also be seen here in Houston. So I’d like to take this opportunity
to introduce Houstonians to the National Exchange Club.
What is the Exchange Club you ask? Simply put, we are America’s Best
Kept Secret. Our organization allows individuals to take the next
step in service by working together to improve our communities
through five programs of service – Americanism, Community Service,
Youth Projects, and the Prevention of Child Abuse.
There are over 800 Exchange Club across America and in Puerto Rico.
Our headquarters are in Toledo, Ohio and currently we’re 26,000
members strong. Together, Exchange Clubs donate millions of dollars
and countless hours of volunteer service each year. Houston alone
has nine clubs in our greater metropolitan area.
Exchange has been changing lives since 1911 and the National
Exchange Club Foundation was established in 1979. This foundation
set the groundwork for positive parenting centers led by trained
professionals dedicated to stopping the cycle of child abuse. To
date, over 100 Child Abuse Prevention Centers have been created
across America. In 1983, the ESCAPE Resource Center was founded in
Houston to aid this effort.
Here in Houston, clubs hand out American flags at Rodeo parades,
send at risk youth to summer camp, award scholarships, participate
in service to seniors, and assist in various other community service
efforts. We also financially support the ESCAPE Resource Center’s
efforts in child abuse prevention.
So why wait? Houston is a great city and together we can ensure
greatness for years to come. I invite you to join our efforts and
start making your neighborhood a better place to live today. Visit
www.nationalexchangeclub.org for more information on a club near
you.
